However, real violence, many curse words and an 8 year old kid giving an adult the finger made me think I was watching a PG-13 rated movie. That stuff was disappointing to say the least. I noticed that there were several parents with 4-6 year old boys with them and I could just see them cringe every time one of these nasties came on the screen. I guess I just don't understand why movie producers feel they have to dirty up a kids movie. It added nothing to the show and in fact detracted from it. If these inappropriate things were cut from the movie we would probably buy the DVD.
The movie did make me long to watch the original Speed Racer cartoons. Apparently other parents felt the same way because when I went to order the original Speed Racer cartoon from Netflix all three volumes of cartoons were marked with a Very Long Wait tag in the movie availability. My overall judgement of this film is that unless your kids are begging to go see it I would skip it. And I would definitely NOT take a 6 year old or younger to see it. What a bummer.

The Wachowski bros certainly put a lot of effort into making Speed Racer... the movie overall looked and felt like a cross between anime, a kaleidoscope, that Flintstones movie, a video game and the Dukes of Hazard
Thanks. You just saved me twenty bucks.
Ruth Anne: the special effects are really cool, but you could just get it through netflix if your kids are begging to see it; just be prepared to cover their ears and eyes about 6 times. When Caleb asked what the 8 year old was doing with his finger that upset Josh and I, I had to think quick and say "oh, he was just lifting up his pointer finger and saying we're # 1." Dodged that bullet, but not all of them. Save your money.
