Doggie Mania

Buddy

Treasure

Well, after numerous emails and calls back forth between Matt and I, "the call"
we'd been waiting for finally came in yesterday afternoon. The call was from a Midwest Animal Rescue Services (MARS) volunteer who wanted to come over to do our home visit. This is the final step in their adoption approval process. She called at 4:45pm and came over at 6:00pm. In the interim Josh and I scurried around the house picking up any little objects that might look unsafe for a dog's new home. I didn't know I could pick up our whole house in 60 minutes but it is possible!! That's good information to know.

Anyway, the volunteer and her husband arrived early, toured our house and backyard and went over their checklist. I believe we passed all the tests but she didn't give a pronouncement one way or another. This organization currently has two dogs that we are interested in--a 1 yr. old male beagle/basset hound mix named Buddy (pictured left), and a 18 mo. old male pure bred beagle named Treasure (pictured right). Hopefully we'll get to meet one of the dogs today, if we passed the home visit. So, there'll be much anticipation around here today. Most people reading this will probably think we're nuts for going through all this just to get a dog. But we feel getting a rescue dog is a good thing to do and we don't really mind the extra steps involved. Whatever dog we welcome into our home will be a permanent member of our family, not just a disposable possession, so we are okay with working with an organization which takes the adoption process as seriously as we do. They want the right home and family for each individual dog and we want the right individual dog for our family.

UPDATE: We got a call this morning from Buddy's foster mom. We passed inspection at our home visit and we are going to meet Buddy this afternoon at the MARS office. If he likes us and we like him we'll get to take him home TODAY! Matt was ecstatic when I called him with the good news. Picture of Buddy added above. Doesn't he look smart and cute?

I totally understand why you are going thru this whole proccess. Last year on the Friday before Mother's day, I became "Mama" to a rescued shit-zu/hound mix that M and named Bailey. That puppy is our first child and I love him so much. There is just something extra special about a rescued dog. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Please be sure to inform the dog about Mr. Bojangles. This is a very important step in the adoption process and cannot be overlooked.

thomas: You're going to laugh out loud when I tell you this, but I actually DID mention Mr. Bojangles last night to the home visit volunteers. I told them that Bojangles comes over to visit quite often (through the garden gate) and that we hope she will be a good friend to our new dog. They were glad to hear that our new dog would have a neighborhood friend!! So, there you go!

Excellent. Well he does seem like a nice dog. I wish you all well with him. I'm sure there will be no shortage of opportunities to visit.
