Well, as we had hoped, today did turn out to be our "gotcha day" for our new dog Buddy. He's very sweet, calm, quiet and friendly. He was listed as a beagle/basset hound mix but he really looks more like a miniature bloodhound to me. He's sleek and has long legs but he's not really tall. He's only about 33 lbs. as opposed to Othello's 50lbs. Today he's been very curiously checking out our house and yard. I hope that tonight he's able to settle down and sleep. He hasn't barked at all yet, but has whined a little bit. I think he's the right choice for our family. We do plan to rename him. With his obvious hound dog bloodline we're thinking he needs a southern fried name like Jethro, Zebadiah, Zebedee, or Aloysius. Brady, Lear and Zeke have also been tossed out as possibilities. It's good to have a dog in the house again. I think Othello would be happy for us.

Oh, congratulations! Your new guy has found a good home. I can tell you from training classes, names longer than 2 syllables are a pain in the neck. LOL He resembles a mini bloodhound because he's a beagle/basset mix. LOL Bassets and Beagles are both descendants of the bloodhound. He definitely has beagle ears, and his face is broader like the basset, with a more narrow snout which is closer to the beagle, and beagle eyes. His head shape is that of a beagle as well. He's a cute guy, and I vote for Jethro, as it's a name I've never heard in class AND is easy to call from the yard. LOL Once you decide on a new name, I can teach you the name game, which is the FASTEST way to teach a dog his name!
Leah--great! I was wondering how we were going to teach him his new name. We'll be signing him up for obedience classes soon.
I will be personally offended if you name your dog Zeke.
Now everyone knows a propah Southern name would be Colonel Beauregaurd Butler Rhett Ravenell.
Kathie - He is such a cutie! Congrats to you and your family on the newest addition.
Quick update for the readers: Last night we had a family meeting and voted on a name for our dog. After three rounds of voting, the family settled on the name Brady.
